Craving pizza? You’ll want to head to Mercurio’s, known for their decadent pies and mouthwatering gelato. If you’re sick of the old pepperoni or plain cheese, try unique flavors like their fig and goat cheese pizza, made with a homemade fig spread, house made mozzarella, goat cheese, arugula and prosciutto. Mercurio’s sells gelato in flavors you won’t see anywhere else, like Italian White House, a vanilla gelato made with Marachino cherries and Blueberry Muffin, a cake batter base with bluberry variegate and streusel topping.  Read our review of Mercurio’s.

La Feria

5527 Walnut St., #2

la-feria

This charming Peruvian restaurant serves traditional dishes like the ropa vieja sandwich, made with shredded beef cooked with tomatoes and onions on French bread and desserts like the alfajor, a Peruvian pastry layered with dulce de leche and dusted with powdered sugar. Pair that dessert with a Peruvian coffee or cafe con leche and you’ll soon be telling all your friends about this tasty Peruvian hotspot.

Harris Grill

5747 Ellsworth Ave.

harris-grill

This casual grill’s homepage reads “Food. Cocktails. Bacon. Shadyside. Pittsburgh.” Making for a perfectly fun and laid-back vibe, The Harris Grill boasts Tuesday as its “Bacon Night.” Baskets of bacon are sold for just one dollar at the bar. Best known for their burgers and sandwiches, their entrees read like a humorous Saturday Night Live skit. There’s the HG Macaroni and Cheese, which the menu jokes has 14,453 calories but no fat, carbs or protein. There’s also the crab cakes McArdle, which Harris Grill writes “people risk their lives by chain smoking on a boat to bring us this crab from the Bering Sea.” Too funny!
