Looking for a reason to visit East Liberty? We put together some great places and things to check out in this neighborhood redefining itself with each new day.

Named after legendary Pittsburghers Gene Kelly and Billy Strayhorn, this theater provides the community with original events and programming and culturally diverse performances. On any given day, there are dance, theater, live music and art shows at the theater. The theater just celebrated its 100th anniversary in its 2014-2015 season.

Union Pig and Chicken

This BBQ joint is part of East Liberty’s renaissance. Come if you have a truly serious barbecue craving, as Union Pig and Chicken doesn’t disappoint. Their “love balls” are enough to make the trip to this restaurant—imagine homemade and slow-smoked pork and beef meatballs dubbed “not gluten, dairy, soy or egg free but tasty as hell.”

Farmer’s Market Cooperative of East Liberty

Open Saturdays from 5 a.m. until noon, this farmer’s market located at 344 North Sheridan Ave. is a welcome addition to the East Liberty neighborhood. You’ll want to make visiting the market part of your Saturday morning routine as soon as you see how fresh and crisp the produce is. Best of all, the market is one of the only sources for meat and fresh produce that is locally grown during Pittsburgh’s notoriously cold winter months.

Trader Joe’s

Cookie butter anyone? One of only three Trader Joe’s in the Pittsburgh area is in East Liberty. With Trader Joe’s so scarce in the ‘burgh, the East Liberty location is one of the best. Head to this unique grocery store for items like that coveted cookie dough, a wide array of cheeses, delicious pumpkin flavored everything in the fall and plenty of seasonal items.
