What is Wigle Whiskey? Well… you have to go back to the 1700s, when Western PA was the heart of American Whiskey production. Phillip Wigle, one of the pioneers of distilling in Pennsylvania, defended this right and lit the spark of the Whiskey Rebellion. Sentenced to hang by none other than George Washington himself for treason, Wigle was ultimately pardoned by Washington after the Rebellion in the 1790s.
Wigle Whiskey is the brain child of Meredith and Alex, whiskey lovers, who decided on a family vacation in 2010 to bring this tradition of family distilleries back home to Pittsburgh. Opening the first distillery in the City of Pittsburgh since prohibition in 2011, Wigle has become the most awarded distillery in the United States by the American Craft Spirits Association, winning Best in Category for Rye (2015) and for Wheat Whiseky and Genever (2016). A family owned business, Wigle is committed to being a positive part of the community, and that’s indeed Pittsburgh Beautiful!
