We were inspired by the success of previous Pittsburghese posts so we decided to create the ultimate Pittsburghese collection from A to Z. Here is part 4, G and H.
1. Grin-filled (place)
Greenfield, as in the neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
2. Gumband (noun)
Rubber band. Used in a sentence could be “Could you grab me that a gumband from that drawer?”
3. Gopher (verb)
Go for, as in “Let’s gopher some ice cream!”
4. Greezy (adj.)
Greasy, like “Those fries can be a bit greezy.”
5. Git atta ‘er! (phrase)
Get out of here! Used in a sentence, could be “We play the Patriots for game 1 of this season? Git atta ‘er!”
6. Haaja (phrase)
How did you? Like “How did you like that Primanti’s sandwich?”
7. Hankerin’ (noun)
Hankering, as in “I got a real hankering for a pierogi.”
8. Haus (noun)
House, used in a sentence could be “I live in the haus with the blue shutters.”
9. Hawliday (noun)
Holiday, as in “When are yinz celebrating the hawlidays?”
10. Hahrd (name)
The name Howard.
