Elliott

Originally a portion of the Township Of Chartiers (no longer in existence), Elliott was for a short time an independent borough.  The City of Pittsburgh annexed the area twice… the southern part in 1906 and the northern part in 1921.  Elliott grew quickly during this time and was a thriving residential community.  It’s location close to downtown Pittsburgh and easy access to the roads and trolley lines into the city played a large part in Elliott’s early 20th Century growth.

Elliot is home to West End Park and the West End Overlook… considered one of Pittsburgh best parks, and home of many of the most stunning views of downtown Pittsburgh and the point.  Visitors, professional and amateur photographers and lovers travel to the park to take in the breathtaking scenery… many wedding albums feature pictures from this vantage point.

The neighborhood is home to many churches and historic homes, with a street named “Rue Grand Vue” having a row of homes known as the “Ten Commandments” (there were 10, now only 9) with stunning views of Pittsburgh’s skyline.  Pets are also very popular with the residents of Elliott, once calling the area “dogtown” due to the number of canines owned by the locals!
