Facts about St. Clair

St. Clair is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh located in the southern portion of the city. The community was the last bit of what was called “Lower St. Clair Township,” annexed to the city in the year 1920. Like some other neighborhoods, the community was mostly made up of St. Clair Village, which was a public housing project constructed in the early 1950s. In 2010, the housing was torn down and the housing authority in Pittsburgh kept the land with the possibility of developing town homes.

An interesting fact about St. Clair—there are no businesses in the community, as it is completely residential. There is one church called the Lighthouse Cathedral which serves residents and the social service agencies in the area that work for the poor.

There has been some business planned for the old housing project. St. Clair Village will now be home to an urban community garden, indoor farmer’s market and cafe, education spaces and an events barn as well as housing.
