In honor of the Penguins first playoff game this season versus the Philadelphia Flyers, we put together a post of mostly fun, some memorable moments in recent Pens history. In no particular order, relive the glory with us.
1. Fleury and his pranks
Pens former goalie Mark-Andre Fleury was a huge prankster during his time with the team. Whether it was hanging Justin Schultz’s street clothes from the rafters of PPG Paints Arena or putting everyone’s keys in one bucket forcing people to sort through everything, Fleury was the winner at being the resident jokester.
2. Hockey Night Punjabi’s Bonino call
We’ll let you relive the glory of “BONINO BONINO BONINOOOOO!”
3. This Phil Kessel meme
Twitter has been circulating with memes of “if you didn’t love me at my worst, then you don’t deserve me at my best. This by far, featuring Phil Kessel, has been one of the best.
4. Dupuis retires
Three years ago, 15-year NHL veteran Pascal Dupuis retired a Pittsburgh Penguin after a medical condition that causes blood clots eventually forced him to quit professional hockey. He was an honored and beloved member of the Pens. Duper, as he was affectionately called, is still active on Twitter.
5. The day we drafted Sidney Crosby
On July 30, 2005, the NHL held their draft at a Westin in Ottawa. After a lockout ended up nixing the 2004-2005 season, the NHL held a lottery and the Pens got the luck of the draw with first choice. They decided on Sidney Crosby and well, we all know how that ended up!
6. The 2017 Stanley cup victory parade
So much greatness came out of the parade. One particular hilarious moment that ended up on a t-shirt was Justin Schultz chugging a beer walking down the Boulevard of the Allies.
7. Back-to-back Stanley Cup wins
The Penguins became the first team since 1998 to win back-to-back Stanley Cups. Right now, we’re on the cusp of history. All we have to do, as the Penguins so eloquently put it, is 3LIEVE.
