The Pittsburgh EQT Three Rivers Regatta begins today, and lasts through the weekend. We’re here to bring you everything you need to know about the festival and also give you a little history of the event too.

2018 Regatta Events

This year’s Regatta is jammed packed with things to do. At the Bank of America main stage, expect to see ’90s favorite Sugar Ray (“Fly,” “Every Morning,” “Someday”) Friday night beginning at 8 p.m.

Saturday from 12-9:30 p.m. will be a Yuengling beer garden. Point State Park will also have frisbee dog demonstrations throughout the day. Saturday night at 9:30 is the Regatta thunder fireworks display.

On Sunday, the Allegheny River will see an Air Force skydive, paddlesports championships and more. If you’re hungry or want to do some shopping, check out Liberty Ave.’s Regatta Marketplace or the food trucks set up along the street.

History of the Regatta

The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta was first held 40 years ago in 1978. The regatta most often plays host to an F1 ChampBoat series race. The race began back in 1982 and was the first of its kind in the country. The regatta is typically held in early August and is known as the largest inland regatta in the U.S. Tens of thousands head out to the Allegheny River. The regatta is an annual continuation of the speed boat and paddle wheeler races held in Pittsburgh from 1949 through the mid ’50s.
