For 125 years, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and its iconic, breathtaking, Victorian glasshouse has been a centerpiece in Pittsburgh’s cultural landscape. Since its opening in 1893, Phipps has been one of the most photographed places in Pennsylvania.
Now, Phipps is giving visitors a chance to win four passes to Phipps and a $500 gift card good for food, drink and shopping at the conservatory to make their picture perfect day complete. The gift card can be used anywhere, but of course, Phipps is the perfect place to start! The contest is up and running, and goes through September 26. Visitors who wish to enter can submit their photo sharing their perspective of Phipps on this page in their website. Phipps also allows visitors to enter via Twitter or Instagram by adding the hashtag #PhippsPhotos. Entrants are limited to one photo entry per day. A random drawing will be used to select all winners.

Phipps’ Interactive Marketing Manager Joe Reed is excited about the opportunity to look at hundreds of photos and see the conservatory through the eyes of its visitors.
“We wanted this to be a way for people to share not only photos of Phipps, but also their thoughts on what makes Phipps valuable to them in a public way,” said Reed. “It’s a great time to call on the public to create a chorus of voices. It’s really exciting to see all of the perspectives of Phipps.”

Reed has seen thousands and thousands of photographs of Phipps and its amazing displays. He thinks the appeal of Phipps for Pittsburghers is the conservatory’s connection to tradition.
“Phipps is part of a Pittsburgh tradition and of families gathering together for a trip to the glass house,” said Reed. “For 125 years, Phipps has been woven into the fabric of what Pittsburghers do.”
Phipps’ staying power as a cultural gemstone in Pittsburgh is underpinned by the work of its professional staff in maintaining the permanent displays and creating new ways to showcase flowers and plants. Reed emphasized that horticultural excellence is Phipps’ tradition. “Phipps opened in 1893, and by 1894 we started seasonal flower shows. The truth is that our commitment to a level of excellence and show-stopping displays has remained very consistent,” said Reed.
There is never a bad time to visit Phipps as the conservatory maintains a year-round offering of displays, but now through September 26 is a particularly good time for those who like to capture their memories and their unique perspective of Phipps in photos.
