Pittsburgh has been the locale of choice for many movies over the years. Here are seven legendary movies shot in our wonderful city.
1. The Deer Hunter
The 1978 movie starring Robert de Niro and Christopher Walken was filmed partly in Clairton and McKeesport. The story in the movie takes place in Clairton.
2. Night of the Living Dead
George A. Romero gave us the first zombie movie, with filming locations including Monroeville Mall for some iconic scenes.
3. Flashdance
With an iconic scene imitated for years now, Flashdance tells the story of a steel mill worker and aspiring professional ballerina. It later became the third highest-grossing film of 1983.
4. The Silence of the Lambs
Filming of the creepy horror thriller took place in and around Pittsburgh, including Oakland, Crafton and Canonsburg.
5. Houseguest
’90s kids will remember the Sinbad-Phil Hartman hit. Scenes were filmed in Sewickley, downtown Pittsburgh, the Hill District and South Side.
6. Adventureland
Most scenes of the 10-year-old movie starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart were shot in Kennywood.
7. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
A new Netflix movie, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, starring Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman and produced by Denzel Washington has been filming in the North Side. As of August 2019, it is currently still in production and due out soon.
