A Brief History Of Dravosburg
Dravosburg is a borough in Allegheny County with a population of just under 2,000. The neighborhood is located along the Monongahela River. Dravosburg is home to a post office that has been in operation since 1862. The borough was named for a man named John F. Dravo, who was a mine owner. Dravo, a pioneer coal miner, opened Dravo Works in 1845. Around that time, Dravosburg’s population was just 850 people. Dravosburg is surrounded by West Mifflin by land. Across the Mon, the community runs adjacent to two neighborhoods—McKeesport and Glassport. Both of those places share a connection via the Mansfield Bridge.
According to the latest census, most living in Dravosburg were married couples and the most populated age group were those ages 45 to 64. According to Niche.com, Dravosburg got high marks in nightlife and housing. 66 percent of people who live in the neighborhood own homes versus 34 percent who rent. The median home value is $59,800 and rent typically goes for $478 per month. The borough has a total area of 1.1 square miles. Dravosburg is home to a Watco Companies barge terminal.
