Chartiers (or Chartiers City), was named after Peter Chartier. Chartier was a French and Native American trapper who built a trading post at the mouth of Chartiers Creek in the 1740s. The neighborhood is in the west area of Pittsburgh and surrounded by Sheraden, Esplen and Windgap.
