New Homestead

New Homestead

New Homestead is a Pittsburgh neighborhood in the southeast portion of the city.  It is bordered on the west by Hays and on the south by Lincoln Place.  It’s northeast border is the borough of Homestead, which is really the history of the area in general.  As a matter of fact, there is very little history about this neighborhood available.  Generally, the history is considered to be that of Homestead Borough.  Homestead was the site of Andrew Carnegie’s Homestead Steel Works, and in 1892, the famous clash between union laborers and Pinkerton Guards… the Homestead Strike, or “Battle of Homestead”.  While this is the general history of the area, it is difficult to find the history of New Homestead and how it became this area anywhere that we can determine.  If you have any information, please contact us by using the contact form in the navigation menu.  Thanks!
