Polish Hill

Polish Hill is a neighborhood just east of down town in the city of Pittsburgh.  Mostly residential, it is also home to one of Pittsburgh’s largest and oldest churches, the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This historic neighborhood is bordered by Oakland, the Hill District, the Strip District, Bloomfield and Lawrenceville.  As it’s name says, it is on a hill overlooking down town and the northern side of Pittsburgh.  The views can be specatular.

Around the mid 1800’s, large numbers of Polish immigrants, attracted by many jobs in Pittsburgh’s steel industry, began settling the hill. Most of these jobs allowed them to perform without learning much English.

Polish Hill is a diverse and resurgent neighborhood today, with many 3rd and 4th generation ancestors of original settlers mingled in with a younger and hip crowd looking to bring back Polish Hill’s inviting charm.  The location of the neighborhood allows easy travel to some of the better know shopping and dining areas in Pittsburgh, such as Lawrenceville and the Strip District.
