The Celtics compete in 17 intercollegiate varsity sports, including basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, track & field, and volleyball.
Transition to NCAA Division III
In 2022, the University was invited to join the Division III ranks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and started as a provisional member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) in the 2023-24 academic year.
Basketball at Carlow University
The Carlow women’s basketball program, which resumed in 1990, participates in at least 26 competitions per season as a member of the American Mideast Conference. The men’s basketball program began in Fall 2014.
Carlow University and Soccer
Carlow University introduced its women’s soccer team in the 1999-2000 academic year, with the team making a playoff appearance in the following year. The men’s soccer program was launched in 2016.
Softball and Tennis
The University started its women’s softball program in 1997 and its tennis program in the 1980s. Each team competes under the American Mideast Conference.
Track & Field and Volleyball
Carlow began fielding men’s and women’s track and field teams in the Spring of 2018. The women’s volleyball program is the longest standing of Carlow’s athletic programs.
Notable Alumni and Faculty
Carlow University has produced notable alumni, such as Peter Francis Flaherty, the 54th Mayor of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (D), 1970–1977. The faculty includes eminent personalities like Jan Beatty, a poet and radio personality, Claudia Pinza Bozzolla, a soprano singer and voice teacher, and Marylouise Fennell, president from 1982–1989.
