We were inspired by the success of previous Pittsburghese posts so we decided to create the ultimate Pittsburghese collection from A to Z. Here is part two, C and D.
1. Caach (noun)
A couch, as in “Have a seat on the caach and watch the game!”
2. Cahntdahn (noun)
Countdown. Used in a sentence could be: “I can’t wait for that New Year’s Eve cahntdahn!”
3. Cellar (noun)
A basement or other place below a home.
4. Cole daht dare (phrase)
Cold out there—for example, “Boy it’s really cole daht dare!”
5. Curl (noun)
Carol, as in “I love a good Christmas curl during the holiday season!”
6. Da Bus (person)
Jerome Bettis, aka one of our former beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
7. Dahn (adverb)
Down, as in “Go dahn the store, dahn the house, dahn the Strip, etc.”
8. Doo Boys (place)
DuBois, pronounced Doo Boys in Pittsburgh.
9. Dahtlets (place)
The outlets, like “dahtlets” in Grove City or Tanger.
10. Dubya (letter)
Not to be confused with the former president, the letter W.
